Today’s job market for therapists/counselors and social-workers is highly competitive. Employers are looking to hire those who can immediately fit into their daily work scheme and who can immediately make real contributions. One of the purpose of this certification training is to expose both students and employers to cutting edge scientific research -based interventions that are now considered by US Department of Health as complimentary therapies to treat mental health & substance abuse clients. These  include such techniques as guided imagery, story telling, embedded metaphors, and medical energetic tools related to concepts of Spirituality, etc. The CST program is cutting edge and part of the 21st century energetic  complimentary & alternative medicine (CAM) movement, that highlight CAM therapies. This training focuses on both Group Edu-therapy & Psycho-Therapy and features hands-on in-vivo training. Each student will also learn how, as a therapist, to heal themselves.  For more than 30 years Dr McKinney has been employed as a therapist, administrator and University Professor  bringing state of the art education, information, understanding and tools/techniques into the classroom for both upper classmen and graduate students. CST, created by Dr McKinney as  therapy for troubled and in-trouble  populations, utilized CST in the REST Las Vegas project and  in  the REST Philly Project .CST has been the recipient of numerous awards and the subject of  5 research studies. The bulk of this course will center on a study of the 26 individual clients of Jesus recorded in the synoptic gospels in the writings Mathew, Mark, Luke and John as recorded in the New Testament.

I highly recommend “The Clinical Jesus:  The Doctor Who Never Lost a Case”, to people of all faiths and in all areas of the healing arts, who would be interested in learning a new approach to healing, which is actually 2000 years old. (International Association of Ma

Introduction to CST - 3 credits

“Violence, impulse control, substance abuse,  poor academic performance and an increased number of suicide attempts are among the many problems… that can be mediated by the inclusion of spirituality in therapy.” (Dr Herb Benson, Director of  Harvard University Mind, Body Institute.) “Alcohol, nicotine and drug use

were reduced in nearly 100 percent  of the studies where ‘Faith Factors were used.” (John Templeton Foundation research. )

Cognitive Spiritual Therapy (CST), according to NIJ sponsored  research, is Cognitive Therapy which utilizes research validated spiritual interventions. CST initiates healing through client participation and  education directed at achieving client self empowerment.  The client is taught by different methods to “heal himself”. CST is an eclectic form of therapy that is “logically and empirically sound, changing behaviors through Spiritual Replacement Thinking”. (NIJ report) CST is part of   movement of mind/body-body healing that represents  the new 21st century medicin e and therapy. The following outline is  course #1  subjects by module.

CST  Group Therapy- 3 Credits

Group Therapy is the form of psychotherapy most  used  today by Mental Health managed care. It is the cheapest form and reaches the most clients. This training is designed to prepare the student to immediately be of value in the mental health workplace as a group facilitator. CST is the technical therapeutic approach employed. The healing method is cognitive therapy utilizing spiritual (not religious) interventions. Each student will learn how to facilitate both small groups (psycho-therapy)  (1-10 members) and large groups (edu-therapy) (11+ members). Using the CST method in practice  as  both a group facilitator & group member (n-vivo) is preparation for being assigned a  internship in real time with real clients.  Although the two group have differences of set-up, processing information, feedback and participation goals, the base goal is the same, empowering the clients to ’heal themselves’.

Course 303 / 603. - 4 Credits
CST – Supervised Internship

4th Semester       .

Supervised Internships are the most effective method available for receiving proper feedback for growth and development as a group facilitator. Each internship is held on Saturday for 15 weeks and will be accompanied by home work assignments, client evaluations,  note taking and record keeping. Each skill will  be critiqued. (Note taking will approximate the work of ’charting’ in a client file.)  Also student interns will be required to keep a journal with questions and statements in regards to difficulties or difficult situations encountered during the sessions. Each Saturday after the group session interns will met with their supervisor  to discuss that days session and to receive needed direction and/or correction. Grades are dependant on all skills being taught: the group facilitation, the note taking, charting, the home work assignment, the learning experienced from the group and about the group members. Although prisons are the focus, listed below are other possible internships. sites.
