Job Seminar Overview

The Bible predicts that because of end-time tragedies, calamities, mass loss of life, terrorism, pandemics, death from countless ways, that there will be excruciating pain and grief over the loss of loved ones, mixed with personal psychological and physical pain, “the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:7-8) (Weeping, Wailing and Gnashing of teeth)(Matthew 8:12;13:42; 22:13;25:30).

The effect of multiple assaults and tragedies to the human mind, body and emotions producing undesirable behaviors were demonstrated in the experience of Job and his afflictions and therefore he is great case history for studying all kinds of grief producing sicknesses and illnesses.

Likewise the life of Jesus was saturated with pain. He was wounded and bruised, a man of sorrow and acquainted with Grief. His first recorded grief was early in his ministry and the hearing the arrest, imprisonment, trial, conviction and beheading of his most beloved cousin John the Baptist. After John’s disciple buried his body, they found Jesus and informed him. He immediately took them into the dessert place to grief. (Mark 6:27-31). The death of Lazarus was another time of being aquatinted with sorrow grief. He taught his disciples to heal those who grieve, and his first official grief counseling assignment was to his beloved disciple John who came with his mother and the other woman to the foot of the cross. They were seemingly inconsolable, but with his last breaths he assigned  John to minister to his mother and these grieving women.  (John 19:6)

The ministry of providing solace to grieving men, women or children is not an easy task because the mind of the griever is in disarray. So logic and rational thinking is very difficult. However, the master healer made it clear to the disciples that in cases where they were stuck as to what to do or say, to remember that even though they would work as His healing ministers, when it came to comforting clients of grief they would have a special spiritual agency of help sent from heaven called the comforter that the father would send to assist them to remember what he had taught them  (John 14:26).

Grief afflicted individuals need immediate professional comfort and should be visited and offered assistance when  in appropriate public and private settings or at their home. This initial Job Seminar will address these issues, with educating and training each enrolled student to provide appropriate interventions for grieving individuals or families. The patriarch JOB, will be studied as a grief stricken and afflicted biblical character. Each month will focus on Job, as well as other related issues.  For the purpose of this seminar, Job will be considered the major client focus in this year long, one two-hour class per month.  Enrolled students will learn how to assess, diagnose, and to use the appropriate psychotherapy spiritual interventions to assist Job’s healing process. Two other clients will be also part of this seminar training each month. Studied also will be a 21st century adult with similar mental health issues. Their third client each student will study, analyze, diagnose and make CST recommendation for intervention will be the student themselves. (Self-analysis and Self-healing) Additional there will also be homework assignments associated with the mental health issue of all three clients.  The 12 other 21st clients studied one per month, are afflicted with similar emotional afflictions such as depression and anger as was Job. Each of their 12 pathological emotions will be studied and the REST intervention procedure applied to each of the three client’s life. Stress will also be studied and 3 types of techniques will be taught  for reducing taug

Grief Intervention - Cognitive Spiritual Therapy (CST)

Cognitive Spiritual Therapy (CST) is the technical therapeutic (healing) intervention being taught in this course for use in grief situations. Dr. Rick McKinney the founder of REST is also the creator of CST. This healing method is a combination of cognitive therapy utilizing spiritual (not religious) interventions. In the REST first course, "Finding Personal Spiritual Healing", students were taught the basics of Cognitive Spiritual Therapy, which they  applied to healing themselves a  prelude to learning to heal others (clients). These same principles are taught within the JOB seminar classes. This course focuses on healing the client in a public and home settings.

Job Seminar Learning Objectives

Each student will learn how to facilitate individual Grief client contacts in both public and home settings.  They will learn how to use the CST methods with individual clients and the techniques and tools to move toward our objective of providing measurable healing results for each individual. Some students will move forward to complete the next seminar class to learn how to facilitate both small groups (psycho-therapy)  (1-10 members) and large groups  (edu-therapy/teaching) (11+ members). This seminar course is also preparation for that next course, “Group Therapy Practice in Live Settings”,  where each student acts as  both a group facilitator & group member (in-vivo).  Following this course the student  will then have their first supervised internship -  a 15-week assignment in real time with real clients.

2nd Seminar Course

Some students will move forward in an additional class to learn how to facilitate both small groups (psycho-therapy)  (1-10 members) and large groups  (edu-therapy/teaching) (11+ members). Although the two groups - small therapy groups and larger edu- therapy groups have differences including size, set-up, processing information, feedback and participation goals, the base goal is the same, empowering the clients to ’heal themselves’.

Group Therapy

Group Therapy is the form of psychotherapy most  used  today by Mental Health  Managed Care (hospitals, treatment programs, aftercare etc.) It is the cheapest form of therapy and it reaches the most clients. This REST education, training and supervised internship program for faith-based Grief Counselor/Therapists is designed to prepare the student to immediately be of value in the  REST Faith-based Healing Programs (Grief Counseling), as well as to work in the mental health workplace (including Managed Care Facilities) as a individual and group grief healing process facilitator.

Summary

In this training the student learns how to facilitate an immediate comforting contact with a grieving individual or family by making a visit to a hospital, home etc. with appropriate supportive literature and invitation for additional assistance, either at their home or at the church. Hopefully, the initial introduction and visit will lead to the affected individual or family to enroll in the REST Grief Therapy Group conducted weekly at the church.
